COLOR STUDIES/SKETCHES
This is a small sample of my usual practice. Studies on color, shape design, observation and overall composition. I really love it when other artists share their backstage practice. I tend to think of studying, as a puppet that makes sure its joints are well oiled everyday. The plan is for the puppet to start its own awkward dance until something else takes over the strings. An idea, a muse, a spirit, call it what you will. You just have to make sure you’re a good enough puppet for them to pick. That’s how flow feels to me. Well honed skill in service of an elusive goal. Among the countless contradictions of the creative process, this specific balancing act is one of my favorites.
